WICOR-Organization
University Posters
Students created University/College posters through an inquiry-based assignment that led students to choose a university or college of interest. These posters included the name, logo, mascot, school colors and requirements for admission. Students learned how to navigate a college website and learned key terms and phrases such as "requirements", "admission", "freshman", "sophomore", "junior", "senior", "letter of recommendation", and more.
Interactive Notebooks and AVID BinderStudents take pride in their interactive notebooks that are kept neat and organized. Notebooks are expected to keep a table of contents, and a title, date, and page number on every page of work. Students must have a notebook for every subject matter class that they keep in their AVID binders. Thus, aside from containing interactive notebooks, the AVID binders contains materials, handouts, tutorial forms, and notes from each of their classes. These items must be organized into tabbed dividers so that students can easily reference. All of these requirements are reinforced by binder checks that are done on a weekly basis.

The College Door Contest was a contest between the entire school on a grade-level basis. The 6th grade AVID students are proud to say that they won this contest on the 6th grade-level! However, this accomplishment did not come without hard work, dedication, teamwork, and project planning. The students voted on the categories that they wanted to include on their college door poster. The work was divided among the students and students took ownership in helping their group members complete their portion of the project. The end result was a collage-type poster that included Standford University's name, logo, mascot, slogan, requirements, images of the campus buildings, interesting facts, famous graduates, and a map of its location in California. |

Tutorial Form
The two images above are of a Tutorial Form (Front and Back) that we use in class. Students in AVID have tutorial sessions that are student led twice a week where they get the chance to work through their most difficult problems whether that be in Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies. Binder Check Form The image to the left is of a Binder Check Form. These Binder Checks are done once a week to ensure that AVID Binders are being maintained, notes are up to date, and notebooks and materials are organized within. This way, students can readily access any materials that they need. |
